Flyinn Newsletter 2007

Dear Friends and Interested Flyers

Hello and Welcome to our 2007 update

2007 was an epic year for Flyinn, with such a full itinerary I think we could not possibly have done more. Being flexible meant that we were able to accommodate young and old, introduce pilots who then toured together, and provide for a large group of friends who ‘spread’ over two consecutive tours to share their adventure.

Without exception, our guests loved their experience and many have been back in contact throughout the year to share that with us, with some sending amazing photographic productions of their memories. A huge thank you to those who did that, we really appreciate the thought and having such a great memoir.

Spring snow at GHS

One of the fantastic things about Flyinn is the colourful variety that is woven into each tour. The ability to be flexible means we can always adapt to our guest needs, the time of year, the local events and the daily weather. We flew to the same beautiful areas throughout the year, and it is so very interesting that every tour has different memories and photographs from these same destinations.

Some of the highlights and activities were:

Spring contrasts: I have often written that this time of year provides huge contrast of colour, with grasses the freshest green, skies from pale to the very deepest blue, and sometimes a fresh dusting of snow on the mountains to complete the picture. The days were beautifully warm, however this season one group of guests awoke to that dusting of snow on their lawn! Sunshine and warmth meant it was short lived. Both the log fire and hot coffee were even more welcome that day. Their comment was they loved the ‘surprise’ and that it certainly added to their stories of adventure. So much so, back home, they compiled a family recipe book with the snow pictures on the front (– but with many more ‘sunny’ ones inside!)

Tarras Christmas Picnic

For Christmas each year our local area Tarras, arranges a district picnic. The popular destination being old Hotel ruins just across the river from Geordie Hill. This season once the days flying was done, we loaded the truck with guests and picnic gear, and forwarded the river to find the picnic. The locals are a particularly friendly bunch, and it took no time before guests were spread amongst the picnics, chatting and enjoying the early evening.

No self-respecting district picnic functions without some races, and soon we were heralded into area teams. Our guests became honorary ‘Lindis Pass’ dwellers, and entered into the spirit by joining in the fun. (I’m sure our team won!) Some adventures we can’t foresee – and it’s these extras, not on the itinerary, which add exponential value.

All those friends: it was a privilege to host groups of friends who came together from all corners of the world. Within aviation, the world can seem like a ‘small place’, and the contacts between these groups highlighted that. The synergy is captivating and pretty soon we felt like we were part of the same circle of friends. It’s an experience which augments the whole adventure, and we can highly recommend it.

Heather and Cookie

A new addition: after a long year of searching, we finally did find the perfect horse for our daughter. Cookie arrived in the midst of one tour where one of our guests was an experienced horse person! Over her days with us Sandy helped groom, and shared her enthusiasm and some welcome advice on preparation for an eventing horse. Heather and Cookie have gone on to have a successful season. And Cookie has learned a lot about farm life and flying things. He no longer startles when the sheep are herded or a plane flies over.

Families and new friends: our last tour of the seasons saw two families fly with us. This was a wonderful treat for all: Grandad Dick and his grandson Derek, plus Tony, Lisa and their daughter Elizabeth. These children and our children were of similar age, and enjoyed the week sharing spare time together. Elizabeth had special needs and enjoyed sharing stories and laughter in the family atmosphere. The flying was fantastic, the weather was settled and early autumn meant we were lighting fires each evening. This made the end of season a totally warm and cosy family affair.

Thank you for your interest in Flyinn Tours, and all that we do. Please feel free to contact us any time with any queries you may have.

In the meantime we wish you safe and happy flying.

Kind Regards
Jo and Matt McCaughan.
